HISTORY of Cabo Cope
(The park, known for its very rich flora and fauna, is a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and part of the Natura 2000 Network.
Some of the 322 species of flora in the park are very important because they are Iberian Africanisms, very rare plants that survive from the time when Europe and Africa were united. In the Natural Park there are, in addition, animal species in danger of extinction such as the black tortoise, Bonelli's eagle or the trumpeter bullfinch, which together with a large number of raptors, indoor birds, mammals and marine species, form an exceptional set of great biological value.
Cabo Cope also has caves where Neolithic remains were found, an Argaric settlement on Cerro de la Cruz, as well as the famous Torre de Cope from the 16th century built to warn of the arrival by sea of Berber pirates.)
